Classic car book reviews: The Alfa Romeo DOHC Engine:High Performance Manual by Jim Kartalamakis

AlfaRomeo

Originally published some 10 years ago, this new edition has been completely revised with much new information relating to Twin Spark cylinder head modifi cations and big brake conversions, amongst others. Although the book’s emphasis is on tuning the venerable Alfa twin-cam motor — in all its guises — the author also looks at the big picture, offering advice on suspension tuning, LSD adjustment and building procedures, electrical system modifi cations, transmissions, cooling and exhaust systems, and distributor recurving. In short, this is a full manual for those wishing to either make their Alfa go faster, or to go racing. Engines covered include the 1300, 1600, 1750 and 2000cc twin-cam four-cylinder, as well as the Twin Spark and 1.8 Turbo. Well illustrated throughout, with clear informative text, this book will be welcomed by all Alfa enthusiasts.
