Last weekend Whangamata was the scene for the 2009 Beach Hop Festival. Now in its 6th year the celebration of the ’50s and ’60s has grown from 4,000 spectators to over 70,000. There was all manner of hotrods, muscle cars and period classics combined with various entertainment from the era.
