News: Ayrton Senna documentary coming next year

Senna profile

There are too few great racing films around. Steve McQueen chipped in with some goodies but the range of motorsport movies is set to grow over the course of the next couple of years. Recently we heard that Toby McGuire signed on to play the late Phil Hill in biopic ‘The Limit’. Now recent reports have emerged of another potentially great racing film scheduled for creation.

Although details are scarce at this stage, the as-yet-untitled documentary on the life of Ayrton Senna is scheduled for release some time next year. The film is being driven by British director Asif Kapadia, produced by Working Title Films (famous for contemporary success with Smokin’ Aces and Frost/Nixon as well as several of the Coen brothers’ films) and benefits from the full cooperation of the Senna family and the Ayrton Senna Institute. Most interestingly the film will be constructed from original footage, including some never-seen-before reels of the champion.
