News: Hawke’s Bay vintage car club abandons Art Deco Weekend

The Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club has planned a different programme for Napier’s Art Deco Weekend next year, one that will not include the vintage car parade.

As reported in the Hawke’s Bay Today, the car club have reached the decision after the Art Deco Trust made moves to take over the running of the parade. The trust will now charge participants $30 which would allow them to take part in the parade and park along Marine Parade for the three-day event.  The vintage car club will now follow an alternative programme that will not involve central Napier, and will do nothing to enhance the Art Deco Weekend.

The Hawke’s Bay club has been involved with the parade for the last  21 years. Last years parade featured 342 cars in total and about 1000 participants, the Art Deco Trust is now looking to reduce the number of cars in the parade to about 250 vehicles and is now contacting vintage car owners throughout New Zealand.
