If you’re about to buy a car, how do you know if it’s genuine? It might have been imported water damaged or fire damaged, reported stolen, have had its odometer wound back, or even have money owing on it which means it might be repossessed from you to repay that debt.
A new Kiwi website has just started up called Checka (www.checka.co.nz). It’s a simple way to get information on any car, van, truck, motorbike, and more — in fact, any vehicle with a license plate will be listed in Checka.
And much of the information is free. Simply enter the registration number of the vehicle and you get a free report so you can help verify that the vehicle you’re looking at is legit. It includes:
Vehicle details — make, model, colour, etc
Vehicle history — every WoF inspection and what the odometer reading was at the time
Estimate fuel cost
Economy, safety and pollution information
The last known license plate
Whether the WoF, CoF and/or road user charges have expired
Buying a car is a significant purchase, so don’t get stitched up. Check it online first with Checka: www.checka.co.nz
