Paul Newman’s old Nissan 300ZX IMSA GTO racecar on sale

You might know him from his movies, or perhaps his tasty salad dressings or even his time spent racing cars, however you look at it Paul Newman was pretty cool. For fans of Newman and of old school Nissans something interesting has just popped up on eBay motors in the States. It’s Paul Newman’s 1987 Nissan 300ZX IMSA racecar. This car packs a walloping 750 horsepower from its turbocharged 3.0-litre V6. The stock gearbox has been dropped for a Weismann five-speed, and the rear differential was replaced with a Stock Car Products piece. The racing modifications are far to extensive to list.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans finisher and SCCA champion Newman used this car throughout 1987, it achieved a best place finish of third that year. The following year, it was handed over to Scott Sharp, who went a bit better and racked up a multitude of wins. The car has been restored since then, and has only competed in a total of four vintage races since work was finished. Of those races, Newman’s old Nissan managed to pull off three wins. There will be a lot of interest in this machine with bidding expected to go over $300,000 USD.
