Brits at the Beach in Tairua this weekend

Last year was the first Brits At The Beach event and it was a huge success with more than 220 cars and 4000 spectators in attendance. This year, the popular event is back and will again be located in Tairua with activities from this Friday (7th Oct) to Sunday (9th Oct).

The event includes a parade, show and a British Village Fete, where you can admire the cars up close and have a yarn with the owners. Viewing is totally free, and vehicles and bikes can be pre-registered at

Renegade Rod and Custom SPCA charity day on this Sunday

The annual Renegade Rod and Custom Club SPCA Charity day is set to go down this Sunday September 25th.

The event is a great way to involve the whole family, as well as support the SPCA through various auctions that take place. Last years event saw many car owners taking home a new pet or two, and organisers have requested no dogs be taken to the event this year.

This year, any persons that donate a gold coin will receive a numbered ticket for spot prizes and a change to win $250 in cash.

Vintage and Classic Car Show in Paeroa next month

The Paeroa Antiques Weekend will take place on Saturday 17th September and event organisers are inviting owners of vintage and classic cars to take part.

Held in the ‘world famous in NZ’ town of Paeroa, there will be a car parade through the main street and then a display in the town centre. Registration is not required, keen participants can just turn up at 10.30 am on the day for the muster up Taylor’s Ave (by the L&P Cafe), ready for the Parade at 11am.

The parade will finish up in Wharf St in the centre of town where cars will get lined up for display and there will be old fashioned devonshire teas and a sausage sizzle available with a live band for entertainment.

For those who wish to join in, there will also be a car rally setting off at 2pm for a gentle circuit, finishing at the historic homestead, Corbett House, in Hikutaia. Read the rest of this entry »

October date set for annual NZHRA National Hot Rod Show

The National Hot Rod Association has announced the dates for this year’s National Hot Rod Show with the event taking place on the weekend of October 15th-16th. The organising committee is now in full swing putting everything into place for this huge weekend on the hot rod calendar.

The club has also announced that Mobil Oil has come on board as an associate sponsor, this means all major sponsorship is in place. All indoor trade display sites have been sold (they all will be car related of course), but there is still limited room outside for some more trade displays.

Hawera is gearing up for the weekend with the town business association organising a Hot Rod themed shop window display competition, and a market day with the local rock & roll club on the Saturday morning.

On Friday night the bar of show sponsor Rough Habits are holding a “Rock FM” party, so this will be a great night with lots of give-aways and fun. The Lazyboyz band is booked for Saturday night’s dinner.

Wheels of Fortune charity car display at Pukekohe – 58 images

The Pukekohe Lions club hosted its first “Wheels of Fortune” vehicle display event last weekend at the Pukekohe racecourse. In attendance was a large selection of vehicles including classics, muscle cars, hot rods and more modern fare. It was a broad range of machines and plenty of entertainment away from the car show too.

More than 1200 cars and special interest vehicles parked around the track and in the pit area with unique displays from car clubs and organisations including Franklin Street Rodders, the American Muscle Car Club, Iron Sands Rod & Custom, HSV Club, Zephyr and Zodiac, Mini, MG, Military vehicles, Coast Guard, Fire Service, St John and many more. There was also part of Dave Parkers huge car collection, with 11 of his 18 classic cars on display.

For the hungry there was a good selection of food and beverages, there was also live music by Tuakau country variety music club and the Sunset coast big band. Some famous folk were doing the rounds including Auckland mayor Len Brown, TVNZ’s Mark Sainbury, and local MP Paul Hutchison. The police were in attendance but not to look for trouble, instead they were offering rides around the track in their cruisers. Auckland’s All Ford Day on this Sunday

If you’re a fan of all things Ford then, for you, Albany is the place to be this Sunday (April 3rd) because Auckland’s annual All Ford Day is back.

The All Ford Day has become a major event on Auckland’s motoring calendar and this year is shaping up to be a big one – last year saw record attendances from display cars – in excess of 600 and equally record numbers of the public were strolling around.

On the back of last year’s event the team at North Harbour Stadium has again stepped up to become the hosts of the 2011 All Ford Day.

This Sunday April the 3rd, gates are opening to show cars at 8.30 am, to the public from 10 am to 2pm – Car entry after 9.30am will be limited so get there early.

Entry for show cars and driver is free, passengers and public: $5 entry, under 13’s free and must be accompanied by an adult.

The event’s primary sponsor is Burgerfuel who will have their crew on site with a huge mobile burger-bar for the hungry masses. Read the rest of this entry »

Lamborghini Miura P400 SV sells for record $1.7m USD

The annual Amelia Island d’Elegance car show in the states brings out some of the finest classics in the world, with some of them going under the hammer. The U.S-based auction saw more than $24.3 million USD worth of metal going under the hammer from an assortment of classic performance and luxury cars.

We already brought you news of a 1952 Ferrari 340 Mexico Vignale Coupe that went for a record $4.3 million USD ($5.8m NZ), and now we have the results of another rare classic sale.

A special 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV Prototype, achieved a record bid of $1,705,500 USD ($2.27m NZ) at the Gooding & Company vehicle auction, making it the most expensive Miura ever sold.

This one-off pre-production Miura P400 SV Prototype was first shown at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show before being sold immediately after to a keen customer in Italy. The car then ended up in Germany before it was purchased by Wayne Obry’s Motion Products in the U.S. which restored the car to the high condition you can see in the images.

It was built with several unique features including a stronger chassis and upgraded rear suspension, as well as a 309kW 3.9-litre V-12 engine matched to a five-speed manual gearbox. It was very rapid in it’s day being able to sprint from 0-100kph in just 6.5 seconds and would top out at 299kph. Read the rest of this entry »

Palmerston North Hot Rod Display and swap meet on this weekend

Palmerston North Hot Rod Display and Swap Meet is one of the largest car events on the calendar for the Manawatu region and it’s on this Saturday (7 Aug).

The swap meet opens at 8am on the day, and those not too tired from a day of trading can attend a dinner and dance put on by the Palmerston North Hot Rod Club on Saturday night, followed by a breakfast the next morning.
