While it doesn’t appeal to all tastes, Targa racing can be fairly exciting and when there is a flaming Lamborghini involved it’s simply awesome. During the recent Targa High Country in Victoria, Australia Lamborghini Gallardo team of Jason and John White struck some heated mechanical issues. The duo had spent the final day of the event battling for the top spot with the near unstoppable Nissan GT-R of Tony Quinn. But the Whites had battled hard and were sitting just four seconds behind Quinn leading into the final stage of the Targa and were determined to close the gap.
Disaster struck halfway through the stage when the team noticed a fireball shooting from the rear of their Lambo. There was two choices: either stop halfway through the course, attempt to extinguish the flames with theon-board extinguishers and give up the overall win or push on for victory and professional fire assistance at the finish line. They went for it. Read the rest of this entry »

A 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT is a special machine however you look at it, but a model that was once owned by Paul McCartney is
a rare proposition indeed.
The Lambo is up for sale through British auction house Bonhams which has the rare ride on its books for the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed auction on July 1.
Early estimates are pegging the car to sell for a sum between £100,000 and £120,000 but often cars with famous owners can go for much more than regular rates.
The Lamborghini 400 GT is a 2+2 coupe with a 3.9 litre V12 that produces 235kW of power. The car was originally designed by Carrozzeria Touring, one of the most famous Italian coach-builders of the ’60′s era. Read the rest of this entry »

Following on from the Gallardo Bicolore special edition announced a month ago Lamborghini is back at its latest special edition Gallardo – the Tricolore.
Even if your Italian isn’t so flash you may have worked out that the name hints at one more colour. What’s it all about? The Gallardo Tricolore commemorates the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. But rather than paint the entire car in three colours the Tricolore arrives in white with the three colours of the Italian flag as an offset stripe, running over the top of the car and also through the interior.
The extremely limited edition model is set for an official unveiling next week in Turin, when more details and images will be released. So far no details have been given on the exact quantity to be produced and the specific drivetrain configuration. The Gallardo’s beastly 5.2-litre V10 engine is currently offered with 550-, 560- and 570-horsepower power outputs, putting its grunt to either the rear wheels or all four, and with manual or e-gear transmissions.

What does the sport of Golf and Lamborghini have in common? Not much you might say and you would have been right until the invention of a new material called forged composite carbon. The ultra-modern material is used in both the Lamborghini Gallardo and the new Callaway Diablo Octane driver. So the two companies decided to get together for some shameless promotions and put the golf club against the hardcore LP560-4 to see if pro Stuart Appleby can drive a golf ball 250 meters faster than the Gallardo can cover the same distance from a rolling start.
With a good drive Stuart Appleby can launch a golf ball at about 280kph. By comparison a Lamborghini Gallardo can approach speeds of 320kph. The supercar is already at a good pace as it crosses the start line, and Appleby appears to strike the ball at almost exactly the same time. In the video the Lambo goes full-throttle right through the finish line with no sign of the ball anywhere near, but the power of slo-mo helps reveal the truth. You want the truth? Then check out the video below. Read the rest of this entry »

Here at NZ Classic Car we generally like to keep our focus on older machines, but occasionally more modern machinery can still turn our heads. This latest video to reach the internet is a little bit special and puts a Porsche 911 GT3 against a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera around the streets of Paris.
It’s an elegantly shot video with professional drivers putting the exotic metal through its paces. Will the GT3′s precise German engineering be enough to fend off the Raging Bull? You’ll have to watch the video below to find out. But there is certainly something awesome about seeing the latest European supercars skid along cobblestone Parisian streets.
